What we are aiming for
Eng AI aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the target, and this page is an honest account of where we are against it rather than a claim of having arrived.
This site has not been independently audited for accessibility. The assessment below is our own, from reviewing the code and testing the interface. Treat it as a starting point and tell us where it is wrong.
What works
- Every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard, and shows a visible focus outline.
- Buttons and links respond the moment they are pressed, not only on release, so the interface is legible on touch as well as with a pointer.
- The whole interface honours reduced motion. If your system asks for less movement, animations are dropped or replaced with a non-moving equivalent; nothing essential is conveyed by motion alone.
- Decorative elements — the background grid, the pointer effects, the margin labels — are marked so screen readers skip them entirely.
- The site works in light and dark, following your system setting, and the colour palette is chosen for contrast in both.
- Small controls have touch targets at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Layouts reflow to narrow screens without horizontal scrolling.
- Sensitive fields are excluded from session recording.
Known gaps
We would rather list these than let you discover them.
- The product tour does not trap focus. It announces itself as a dialog, but keyboard focus can still move to the page behind it, and the content behind is not hidden from screen readers.
- Mathematical notation is rendered visually. It carries some structure for assistive technology, but complex expressions may not be announced usefully.
- Diagrams and figures in questions and solutions do not all have text alternatives that fully convey them. Where a figure carries information that is not in the surrounding text, that information may not reach you.
- Handwriting and photograph submission assumes you can write or draw, and the drawing canvas cannot be operated by keyboard. Typing an answer is always available as an alternative and is graded identically.
- Colour is used to distinguish difficulty and grade outcomes. Text labels accompany these in most but not all places.
- We have not tested with screen readers systematically, nor at high zoom or with a screen magnifier.
Where this does not apply
The question bank includes engineering figures and diagrams that are inherently visual. We aim to describe them in text where the description carries the information, but some visual reasoning tasks cannot be made fully non-visual.
If something blocks you
Email [CONTACT EMAIL]. Tell us what you were trying to do, what got in the way, and what you are using — browser, and any assistive technology. We will reply within five working days, and we will tell you either when it will be fixed or, honestly, that it will not be soon.
If something is inaccessible and you need the content another way, ask. We will find a way to get it to you.
